![]() ![]() If you look there are Pound symbols (#) floating around in there. Now depending on what you are doing with GRUB you will have to edit it differently. This is the section that we will be looking at:Ĭhainloader +1ok so if you look there is the Vista partition and the Recovery partition i was talking about. We are going to make the Ubuntu options go away and make it so it auto loads windows. # This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux OSĬhainloader +1now we are simply going to look at one section of this file and edit it. # This is a divider, added to separate the menu items below from the Debian Title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (recovery mode) # should update-grub add savedefault to the default options # should update-grub adjust the value of the default booted system # should update-grub create memtest86 boot option # update-grub will ignore non-xen kernels when running in domU and vice versa # specify if running in Xen domU or have grub detect automatically # only counts the first occurence of a kernel, not the # controls how many kernels should be put into the menu.lst altoptions=(extra menu suffix) extra boot options # Xen Linux kernel options to use with the default Xen boot option # Xen hypervisor options to use with the default Xen boot option # should update-grub lock old automagic boot options # additional options to use with the default boot option, but not with the # should update-grub lock alternative automagic boot options # should update-grub create alternative automagic boot options # If you want special options for specific kernels use kopt_x_y_z # default kernel options for automagic boot options # DO NOT UNCOMMENT THEM, Just edit them to your needs # by the debian update-grub script except for the default options below # lines between the AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST markers will be modified # Put static boot stanzas before and/or after AUTOMAGIC KERNEL LIST # control (menu entry editor and command-line) and entries protected by the # If used in the first section of a menu file, disable all interactive editing # Hides the menu by default (press ESC to see the menu) # Set a timeout, in SEC seconds, before automatically booting the default entry ![]() # array will desync and will not let you boot your system. # WARNING: If you are using dmraid do not use 'savedefault' or your # is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'. # You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. # the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used. # Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. enter the following command:Ĭode: # menu.lst - See: grub(8), info grub, update-grub(8) im going to use USB for the name of the flash drive but please enter the name of your drive in place of that. you can rename it if need be for easier access. This is where we will put the GRUB files at. then we are going to make some directories. First we are going to take a flash drive we don't use and delete all the data on it.Ģ. The reason we do this is so that we can have our Grub system build itself instead of having to build it ourselves.Īfter you do that go to Terminal and do the following steps (some of the letters look alike so please copy and paste if need be.):ġ. #INSTALL GRUB ON USB DRIVE INSTALL#first install Ubuntu and boot into it after installation. So looking around i found some info and took my own info that i already had and combined all the information to put together what i wanted an independent GRUB system that doesn't need Ubuntu. So i needed to separate GRUB from Ubuntu. Now i have Ubuntu installed on my Toshiba laptop and i didnt want to run Ubuntu on my Sony VAIO (the one with Vista) because i run Ubuntu from my Sony via Virtual Server Network (VSN) which is connected to my Toshiba which is what the VSN runs from. So i wanted GRUB because i can boot into that partition from there. #INSTALL GRUB ON USB DRIVE WINDOWS#The reason i wanted GRUB on a flash drive is because i have Windows Vista and there is a recovery partition on my hard drive also that i have needed to use a couple of times (because Vista sucks and corrupts itself every-once-in-a-while) ![]()
